Why I'm Opening this Home as a doctor

This felt like a necessary response to what I repeatedly saw on the hospital wards. As a doctor in acute care, I looked after autistic adults and people with learning disabilities who arrived in hospital during a crisis. Most of these cases could have been prevented. Health problems were missed, communication needs were not met, or the right specialist support was not in place. Over time, seeing these situations unfold through no one’s fault, but because community care is so fragmented was hard to watch.
Autistic adults and people with learning disabilities deserve better than just a place to stay. They need support that truly understands their neurodiversity or intellectual needs, and anticipates health issues before they escalate. At Harmony Haven, each person is known by name. Families are partners and not outsiders. Support is individual and based on real strengths, routines, and unique communication styles.
As a practicing doctor, I will provide regular health checks, be actively involved in medication reviews, and offer clinical support to the team. Our staff will be trained to support the specific needs of autistic people and those with learning disabilities, using trauma-informed approaches and the best evidence around positive behaviour support.
This service means a lot to me on a personal level. The right environment, professional relationships, and strong health care can transform lives. No one should be left out or left behind. Harmony Haven is here so everyone, no matter their background, can be supported to live their best life.
