Making a Difference
Dr MJ’s Harmony Haven was founded by Dr Moyenda Joseph (Dr MJ), an acute medical physician who recognised a profound gap in care provision for autistic adults and adults with learning disabilities who have complex medical and neurodevelopmental needs. During his years in medical training, Dr MJ worked extensively in supported living and hospital environments. He observed firsthand the challenges faced by individuals with autism and learning disabilities who were unable to find truly integrated, person-centred support settings that could meet not just their day-to-day support needs, but also navigate the complexities of their physical and mental health.
As a doctor, Dr MJ repeatedly witnessed families in crisis and adults falling through the gaps struggling to find services that genuinely understood the intersection between autism, learning disability, and health. Motivated by both clinical insight and a lifelong commitment to advocacy, he set out to create a new standard for residential care: a place where excellence in support and robust clinical oversight come together, values are upheld, and every person is seen as an individual, not a diagnosis.
Harmony Haven was created not simply to ‘fill a need,’ but to pioneer a new era of care in Kent one where autistic and learning-disabled adults can thrive, make meaningful choices, stay connected with their communities, and benefit from both specialist expertise and authentic compassion.
